Prince Harry and Princess Diana: Royal expert Tina Brown explains why Princess Diana wouldn’t be ‘proud’ of Prince Harry’s US move | Exclusive Interview

After leaving his role as a senior working member of the British royal family, Prince Harry pledged to carry on the work of his late mother, Princess Diana.

However, former Vanity Fair editor and author of The Diana Chronicles, Tina Brown, says the People’s Princess knew she would be more impactful by staying within The Firm.

“Sometimes people say, ‘Oh, wouldn’t Diana have been proud or pleased with Harry having made his escape’ – absolutely not,” Brown tells 9honey after coming off stage at SXSW London.

After leaving his role as a senior working member of the British royal family, Prince Harry pledged to carry on the work of his late mother, Princess Diana.

“She understood that you could make more change from acting inside the institution than you could without it.

“I mean, when Diana shook hands with the AIDS patient without wearing gloves in Middlesex Hospital in the 80s, would it have been a more potent symbol that she’d just been a celebrity, or was the real meaning of it that she was inside the monarchy?

“I think she knew, and I agree, that she had much more impact coming from inside the monarchy.

Which begs the question – amid their somewhat lacklustre business endeavours in their new lives as private citizens in the US and with Prince Harry having to walk away from some of his much loved charities in the process – could Harry and Meghan come back into the royal fold?

The Palace Papers author thinks they very well could.

“I think Harry would like to, and I think it’s very bitter for him that it’s not possible, essentially,” the renowned magazine editor tells 9honey.

“And I think the sad part is, I think they [British royal family] could use them.

“I think that he contributed a lot, he’s actually very good at it too. In fact, in many ways, Prince Harry is probably the most talented, natural royal figure and I think he realised too late that actually he’s very good at being a prince – that’s what he’s really good at.

“I mean, it’s a role someone’s got to play and I think he really wasn’t… I think now, if he had it back, he would not be a reluctant prince. I think he would be thrilled to be able to play that role from inside.

“He’s found that playing it from outside, it just means that he’s just another celebrity on a red carpet.”

World-shaking secret Harry, Meghan were keeping in this pic

Prince Harry spoke about wanting reconcilliation with his family in a recent interview with the BBC, but whether Harry and Meghan would pack up their home in the US to return to the UK, and royal life, remains to be seen.

Although, after the Duchess of Sussex’s recent social media posts, including twerking in a birthing suite before welcoming daughter Princess Lilibet, it may not entirely be their call.
