Prince William jokes about going bald while meeting fans at Sporting Khalsa FC in Willenhall

While Prince William will one day wear England’s crown, he is aware it will be placed atop a smooth surface.

The royal has been spotted cracking a joke about going bald, a topic that has circulated non-stop since his hairline began to recede over a decade ago.

During his recent outing at the Sporting Khalsa FC in Willenhall, the Prince of Wales encountered an enviable head of hair.

“Look at your hair, it’s fantastic,” the 42-year-old told a woman with a bright red pixie cut in the fan-captured video.

The royal watcher greeted Prince William, with her hair standing out against the swarming crowd.

“[I] wish I had hair like that. I know, I’ve not a chance,” the royal quipped, to laughter from surrounding fans.

It isn’t the first time Prince William has joked about his hair loss.

He mentioned it when he appeared on the British YouTube channel Sorted Food in 2023 to talk about his Earthshot Prize award ceremony.

“Earthshot Prize [is] an initiative I started about two years ago now, although it’s been about four years in the making—I had hair when it started,” he said.

In recent months, William has been sporting a beard, a choice he says didn’t go over well with his family initially.

The future King shared a hilarious anecdote about daughter Princess Charlotte’s reaction in an interview during his visit to South Africa for the Earthshot Prize.

“Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears; the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off,” he said.

Eventually, the nine-year-old came around to the idea of her father sporting facial hair.

“Then I grew it back. I thought, ‘Hang on a second’, and I convinced her it was going to be OK,” the royal reflected.

One reporter told William the beard gives the impression of a “relaxed” look, which the Prince of Wales found ironic considering how difficult 2024 was for the royal family – two members, King Charles and the Princess of Wales, were diagnosed with cancer.

“It’s interesting you say that, because I couldn’t be less relaxed this year, so it’s very interesting you’re all seeing that,” he responded.

“But it’s more a case of just crack on and you’ve got to keep going.”
