During a rare live radio interview from the Isles of Scilly – a group of islands off the coast of Cornwall, England – the Prince of Wales praised his wife’s strength after her recent one foreign trip to Italy.
“She’s an amazing mother, an amazing wife, and our family literally couldn’t live without her, so she’s been absolutely gorgeous and brilliant,” William said.

The 43-year-old royal spoke to Heart Breakfast presenters Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden as he visited the remote island community in his role as Duke of Cornwall, to open a new hospital facility and set up housing and healthcare projects.
William said he was “so proud, very, very proud” of Kate after she completed her first official visit abroad since her cancer diagnosis.
“She’s been great. “She’s been through so much especially in the last few years,” he said.
“And yes, she was really looking forward to the trip to Italy. And so I am very happy that it went so well.”

Earlier this month, the Princess of Wales traveled to Reggio Emilia in northern Italy for work related to the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood, a project she has worked on for many years.
‘She wanted to do a lot of research. She spends God knows how much time now going through all the paperwork,” he said.
“She’s a true professional at a young age. Most nights I’m fighting to get by in the bedroom, the paperwork she has lined up, ready to read.”

“So I’m so glad she did well, and yeah, I think she came back buzzing.”
The prince also acknowledged the toll foreign engagements can still take as the family continues to manage Kate’s recovery behind the scenes.
“Outings like that take a lot out of you… so we have to balance that, make sure she’s doing well and rested, but that she’s in good shape,” he said.

Kate revealed in March last year that she had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing abdominal surgery. She later confirmed she had completed chemotherapy and announced she was in remission in January this year.
The princess dramatically scaled back her public duties in 2024 as she focused on treatment and family life with Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
During Friday’s interview, William also gave a glimpse into life at home, describing chaotic school mornings, forgotten instruments and jam-covered car seats.
“Charlotte, Louis, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please. Make sure you don’t argue about who’s listening to what this morning,” he joked on air.

The prince admitted he is “definitely not a morning person” before describing the struggle to get the kids out the door.
“It depends, if there’s a guitar lesson, a music lesson, you have to get the guitar in the car. No, we’re not taking the guitar, we’re going on board, right? Seeing friends? No, we’re not. So there’s a lot going on in the morning,” he said.
The interview highlighted William’s growing role in overseeing the Duchy of Cornwallthe private estate he inherited from King Charles after becoming Prince of Wales in 2022.
The Duchy, founded in 1337 to provide an income for the heir to the throne, finances projects in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, including housing developments, environmental initiatives and healthcare services.
William said one of the priorities during his visit was to open comprehensive healthcare facilities on the islands, where residents have traditionally traveled to mainland England for treatment.

“The islands struggled to ensure that they received sustainable long-term care here,” he said.
“People often had to go to the island and the mainland, and the costs for them are a nightmare.”
He said the redevelopment would deliver local maternity and social care services while supporting NHS staff working in remote conditions.
William also visited new homes built for essential workers, including teachers, nurses and firefighters.
“It hasn’t been built here on the scale that we’re doing it for almost 30 years,” he said.
The appearance comes amid reports that William is considering selling part of the Duchy’s estate over the next decade to help fund housing and renewable energy projects.
