Princess Anne shares her true thoughts on Queen Camilla

Published on

Anne, Princess Royal has made her feelings clear about her sister-in-law, Queen Camilla.

Princess Anne made a surprising comment in an interview with Tatler, praising Camilla’s performance in her role as Queen, saying that the 77-year-old is “incredibly generous and understanding.”

Anne says the affect Camilla has on her brother Charles, 76, is noteworthy.

“Her understanding of her role and how much difference it makes to the King has been absolutely outstanding,” she said.

“I’m sure lots of people do say to her what a difference she’s made, but that is really true,” she said, adding that she has known Camilla for a long time.

Anne and Camilla have thought to be at odds with each other even as they grew up. They ran in the same social circles, had the same hobbies like horse-riding, and even dated the same men.

Split-second snap that had Anne spitting expletives

Anne had dated Andrew Parker Bowles years before he and Camilla were involved romantically, with the couple even said to have gone on double dates with Charles and Camilla.

Princess Anne was married to Mark Phillips from 1973 to 1992, and is currently married to Timothy Laurence since 1992.

Andrew was married to Camilla from 1973 to 1995, and later wed Rosemary Dickinson, with their marriage lasting until 2010.

The ex-couple remain close, with Andrew being the godfather of Anne’s daughter Zara.

Despite their differences, it seems that the sisters-in-law have immense respect for each other and the crown they both serve.

This was highlighted in an instance in November last year, when Camilla received an honorary doctorate of literature from the University of London, presented to her by Princess Anne, who is the university’s chancellor.

Before the ceremony, the pair made their way into a room where they were to meet the four other recipients of the doctorate. But when Camilla invited Anne to enter through, the Princess smiled and flatly and politely refused, making sure the Queen went ahead.

This is due to royal protocol which dictates that royals must follow the “sequential hierarchy of nominal importance” which has been in place since 1066.

Since Camilla outranks Anne, she is to enter the room first, with other royals following behind.
