Princess Ariane of The Netherlands celebrates 18th birthday with glam new portraits

Princess Ariane marked her 18th birthday with new portraits released by the Dutch royal household.

The images put on social media on April 10, 2025, were taken by photographer Frank Ruiter at the royal palace in The Hague, Paleis Huis ten Bosch.

The youngest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, posed in a green ensemble as well as a red lace dress in the moody, almost period drama-style shoot.

“Princess Ariane celebrates her 18th birthday today,” the royals’ official account captioned the post.

“New photos have been published on the occasion of her birthday. The photos were taken at Paleis Huis ten Bosch.”

Princess Ariane has seemingly continued a recent royal tradition in these stylised images.

The royal followed in the footsteps of her older sisters who used the same photographer for their 18th birthday portraits.

Princess Amalia, the future queen of The Netherlands, posed for Ruiter in 2021, like her younger sister in two outfits.

Those in a red dress were released on her birthday morning, while the second shots of the royal in a tiered maxi dress featuring an animal print were released later in the day to mark her new “seat in the Council of State ‘by right'”, as heir to the throne.

The historic photos making the long list of the Dutch National Portrait Gallery’s Rabo Photographic Portrait Prize 2022.

Princess Alexia had her turn in 2023, wearing a white shirt dress and a purple outfit in her photoshoot.

“Warmest congratulations, Princess Ariane!,” Ruiter wrote on social media.

“Eighteen already — a remarkable age. Wishing you every success and joy in all that lies ahead.”

Princess Ariane isn’t the only European royal celebrating her 18th birthday this week.

Over in Denmark, preparations are being made for King Frederik and Queen Mary’s eldest daughter’s 18th birthday.

Princess Isabella’s milestone will feature a two-part celebration across this Friday and next Tuesday, ahead of her actual birthday on April 21, which is Easter Monday.
