The largest collection of clothing belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales, will go to auction in June promising to make history.
Many of the 200 pieces have never been available to the public before, according to Julien’s Auctions.
Items will include those owned by the late princess along with couture garments from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, historic items belonging to Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother, and royal treasures dating as far back as the 19th Century.

Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection auction will take place at the Peninsula Beverly Hills on June 26.
In a release, the auction house said the “unprecedented sale offers collectors and fans a rare opportunity to own a part of Diana’s enduring style legacy”.
“Princess Diana holds a special place in the heart of Julien’s Auctions, and we are honoured to continue to preserve her legacy telling her story through the pieces that defined her elegance, grace, glamour and spirit,” Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien’s Auctions, said.

“This collection is the most significant offering of her wardrobe ever presented at auction – each item a window into a moment in history and a tribute to a woman whose humility and style and personal warmth continues to inspire the world”.
Among the pieces from Diana’s collection going under the hammer is the 1988 Bellville Sassoon floral day dress, widely known as the “caring dress” because the princess wore it many engagements over the years involving children.

“The dress became known as her ‘caring dress’ because she often wore it on visits to hospitals or to meet children, knowing that they loved the bright, colourful pattern,” Historic Royal Palaces curator Matthew Storey said in 2021, when hand drawn sketches from the designer went on display at Kensington Palace, Diana’s former home.

“She decided not to wear the large matching hat that was designed to accompany it, as she said you couldn’t cuddle a child in a hat.
“She would also sometimes wear chunky jewellery when she knew that she was going to meet children, as they would enjoy playing with it.”

The brand went on to create a number of memorable outfits for the late Princess of Wales.
Julien’s has not revealed what other items are being included in the auction, with more details expected to be announced soon.
The iconic jewels worn by Diana, Princess of Wales
While many of the pieces for sale are items donated from friends and colleagues, others were originally sold by Princess Diana at her famous 1997 Christie’s auction when 79 of her most iconic gowns went under the hammer, raising $5 million for charity.
The pieces will be on display at museums in Seattle and in Ireland before the auction begins.
In 2023, the auction house broke records when an evening gown belonging to Diana sold for $US1.1 million ($1.4 million), 11 times its estimate, breaking the record price for one of her gowns.
Diana first wore the black and blue ballerina-length evening dress, by designer Jacques Azagury, in Florence in 1985.
Last year a pair of emerald green Kurt Geiger shoes, worn by Diana, sold for $US390,000 ($693,000) at auction.
The previous auction record for a piece of clothing owned by Diana was her iconic wool sheep print jumper, by Warm and Wonderful, which sold for $US1.1 million ($1.7 million) in 2023 – 14 times the expected price.
