A spokesperson for Queensland Rail said shopping trolleys on trains are deemed a “safety risk”.

Before starting a journey, customers should be aware of more common items not allowed on the Queensland Rail network,” they told 9honey.

“Oversized items onboard trains can pose a safety risk to customers and we want to make sure our customers’ commutes are safe and comfortable.

“That’s why we urge customers not to bring any sizeable objects that can’t be put under a seat or in a storage area including shopping trolleys; animals, other than guide dogs, hearing dogs or other assistance animals; and not smoke or consume food, alcohol or other drinks when they travel on the network.”

Those who bring trolleys onto Queensland trains can face fines of “up to $322”.
