John Pearce is known to most people as The Purple Wiggle, but to his wife Jessie he’s the guy she knew in high school.
The couple, who have been together for 13 years and are relishing their newest roles together as mum and dad, may seem like high school sweethearts – but it’s not the case.
While they did know of each other as teens, their love story didn’t start until a few years later in a place where so many romances have blossomed: King’s Cross.
“I met Jessie in high school,” he told 9honey.

John and Jessie went to neighbouring high schools on Sydney’s lower North Shore, although things didn’t progress until after they had left Year 12.
“We weren’t dating yet, and just after high school when we finished our HSC, we were heading to Kings Cross, as every young person does when it was vibing,” John explained.
“That’s when I bumped into her again and we were both single and at the right time in our lives.
“One thing led to another and we just started dating.”

While John said the nightclub was one part of them finally becoming more than friends, it was the whole situation in general.
“When you’re out and you’re having fun with your friends and you bump into someone you knew, it’s just a different circumstance,” he said.
“The universe just pushed us together in that moment, and it was just the right thing at the right time.”
Before they started dating, John had dipped his toe into the spotlight, winning Season 4 of Australia’s Got Talent with Justice Crew.
The Aussie dance group gained a huge fanbase after their success on the show and went on to release a number of songs, which saw them nab eight ARIA Award nominations.
As his success grew, so did his relationship with Jessie.
The couple dated for six years before John got down on one knee.

“Still in shock! My best friend asked me to marry him – and I said yes,” she posted in September 2018 to announce the big news.
A year after they announced their engagement they tied the knot in Sydney, surrounded by family and friends.
The next big step for the couple came when he was handed the purple skivvy in 2021, at the time they were trying to start their own family.
As Jessie took her spot, cheering him on on the sidelines, they were thrown into the world of touring with the iconic children’s group while navigating their life together as a couple.
Jessie has been a strong supporter of John in the time they’ve been together, often sharing posts about him on her Instagram.
“You’re connected at the hip when you get married,” he joked during the chat with 9honey.
“I’ve always kind of tried to be there as much as possible, and Jess has done the same for me.”
But in recent years the support has shifted, and it’s John who’s been there for Jessie as they journeyed along a bumpy road to parenthood.
Jessie has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and the way he’s been there to support her through it has been different, admitting, “There’s only so much you can do externally.”
“Being there mentally and being the rock, and she does the same.”
John and Jesse recently welcomed their son, Henry, after their six-year fertility journey and he couldn’t be prouder of her.

“She’s a tough woman and she’s very brave to go through all this, but to see her go through and succeed… there’s more joy at the end of the road that we get to celebrate together,” he added.
While life has definitely changed for the couple, it’s been a welcome shift.
And when John and the Wiggles head off on tour through Europe and the US this year, Jessie and Henry are coming along too.
