Queen Camilla introduces new puppy Moley, six months after death of dog Beth

The royal household has a “mischievous” new member.

Queen Camilla has introduced her new puppy to the world six months on from the death of her Jack Russell, Beth, in November 2024.

The puppy, named Moley, was recently adopted from the Battersea Dogs and Cats home, according to an Instagram post on the Royal Family’s account.

The post revealed Moley, along with Camilla and King Charles’ other dogs, will be honoured at the Chelsea Flower Show as part of the Dog Garden installation led by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and BBC Radio2.

“The garden, designed with dogs in mind, features grass areas for dogs to enjoy and a large tree providing shade,” it says.

“The brick paths are inscribed with the names of dogs belonging to Radio 2 presenters and RHS ambassadors, as well as Monty Don’s beloved dog Ned, to reflect the special place dogs hold in the nation’s hearts and gardens.

“The names of The Queen’s adopted Jack Russell Terrier, Bluebell and her new puppy, Moley will feature on the path, alongside that of her much loved dog Beth, who passed away last year.

“The name of The King’s dog, Snuff, is also included on the path. The Garden for Dogs will live on after RHS Chelsea, at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.”

Queen Camilla is Battersea’s royal patron.

In November, Buckingham Palace shared the news of Beth’s death, which is said to have left Camilla “heartbroken”.

“[Beth] brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire,” the statement read.

The royal adopted Beth in 2011, and made the decision to put her down last year after the diagnosis of an untreatable tumour.

“Along I went to Battersea, and Beth appeared, and she had just been moved from pillar to post and dumped,” she recalled of the adoption process in a BBC2 interview.

Not long afterwards, Camilla decided to adopt a second dog, which is how Bluebell joined the household.

“We thought it would be nice for her to have a friend,” she said.

“They found [Bluebell] two or three weeks later, wandering about in woods, no hair on her, covered in sores, virtually dead. And they nursed her back to life and her hair grew again.”
