Queen Mary makes glamorous return to royal duties after the death of her father John Donaldson

Queen Mary of Denmark has returned to royal duties after her father’s deathalong with royalty from around the world to celebrate the Swedish king’s birthday.

The Tasmania-born queen appeared next to her husbandKing Frederickduring the 80th birthday gala of Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Queen Mary, 54, wore a striking pink floral dress, diamond earrings and known for its innovative jewelry choicesused a historic bracelet as a tiara.

The Danish monarchs joined royal guests from across Europe and beyond for a lavish banquet at Stockholm’s Royal Palace.

Among the guests were Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedkeek of the Netherlands, Queen Mathilde and King Philippe of Belgium and King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway.

Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon attended without his wifeCrown Princess Mette-Marit.

She has been largely absent from public duties this year due to deteriorating health and recent revelations about her past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and the criminal trial against her son Marius Borg Hoiby.

For Queen Mary, the glamorous outing comes weeks after she announced that her father, John Dalgleish Donaldson, had died on April 11 at the age of 84.

In a statement, the queen said: “My heart is heavy and my thoughts are grey.”

“My beloved father has passed away.”

“But I know that as the sadness subsides, the memories will become clearer, and what will remain strongest is the love and gratitude for all he has given and taught me.”

A photo shared to announce Donaldson’s death was taken by Queen Mary on March 23.

Queen Mary was able to see her father for the last time in Hobart in March, at the end of the conversation between her and King Frederick X. state visit to Australia.

Donaldson is survived by his wife, Susan Moody, and his children and grandchildren.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date, the palace said.
