Queen Sonja of Norwaywas admitted to hospital this week over a health scare, three months after she received a pacemaker.
The Queen, 87, was hospitalised in Oslo due to experiencing “shortness of breath”, as per a translated statement from the Norwegian Royal House on April 21.
The royal was airlifted to hospital from Sikkilsdalen, where she had been spending Easter with her husband King Harald V at the Prince’s Cabin.

In an update the next day, the palace announced the Queen had been discharged.
“Investigations show that the situation has normalised. The Queen is on sick leave for the rest of the week,” the translated statement read.
The Queen’s recent medical scare comes three months after she was admitted to hospital in January for a heart condition.

The royal was hospitalised for atrial fibrillation which was in relation to a skiing trip.
She was discharged a day later with a regular heart rhythm.
Days later, the palace announced the Queen would undergo surgery for a pacemaker implant “due to a situation that arose with cardiac fibrillation.”
The palace confirmed the procedure was successful.
Sonja’s husband, King Harald V of Norway, received a pacemaker in early 2024.

The royals have been married since 1968 and share two children and six grandchildren.
In February 2024, the King received a temporary pacemaker after developing an infection while on holiday in Malaysia.
The royal house said the pacemaker was inserted “due to a low heart rate.”

The implant was then replaced with a permanent pacemaker the next month in Oslo.
The Queen’s recent hospitalisation comes weeks after hosting a state banquet inside the royal palace in Oslo for Iceland’s visiting presidential couple.
Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended with their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who wore a diamond necklace gifted to her by the King and Queen for the 18th birthday.
