Rabbit breeds available in Australia as pets

Rabbits can make lovely pets, particularly for adults who are away from home during the day because the crepuscular nature of bunnies means they’re most active at morning and night.

Bunnies are affectionate, intelligent, can learn tricks and can even be litter trained.

Unfortunately they’re not as good for children as most people think, and can live up to 12 years so they’re a long-term commitment.

While wild feral rabbits are considered a pest in Australia, domestic rabbits are legal to keep in all states and territories except Queensland. Exceptions do apply in the sunshine state, though, for magicians and universities with a special license.
