When it comes to teaching your kids important life lessons, Reese Witherspoon is just like the rest of us.
The mum-of-three shared a story on Instagram, admitting a recent night out with her kids made her feel really good about herself as a mum.
The 48-year-old explained she was out with a friend and her two boys, 21-year-old Deacon and 12-year-old Tennessee, when they were asked an important question.

As they chatted over dinner her friend asked the boys if there were any lessons they will “always remember” their mum had taught them.
“One of them said, ‘She tells me if I have a choice to be normal or if I have a choice to be weird, I should be weird, and it’s OK to stand out and be different,'” Witherspoon recalled.

She didn’t mention which of her two sons made that admission, but clearly it made her a bit emotional.
“It filled my heart with the deepest joy that he learned that from me,” she said proudly.
“It just meant so much to me that my kids know that it’s OK to be different and that it can actually end up being your superpower.”

The Big Little Lies star was inspired to share her own storyafter seeing a quote from White Lotus actress Aimee Lou Wood.
In an earlier post on her Instagram Stories, Witherspoon reposted a tile from an interview Wood had done with The Hollywood Reporter which had a similar message.
“I spent a lot of my life worrying about being weird, and now I’m realising it could be my superpower,” read the quote.
Witherspoon added, “I love this!” at the top of the post.

Witherspoon has previously spoken out about motherhood and raising her kids.
The Legally Blonde star is also mum to daughter Ava, 25, and explained that while juggling motherhood and her career hasn’t always been easy, it’s been worth it.
“There’s a lot of compromise… You feel like that’s what makes me wake up on a Sunday, it’s not movies or my job, it’s my kids,” the actress said on The Drew Barrymore Show.
“Being a mum is really great, it’s a big part of my life. I would say it’s the biggest part of my life.”
