Rescue operation under way after teen injured at Warriewood blowhole

A teenage boy has been pulled to safety during a daring rescue mission after being sucked into a notorious blowhole and submerged. Sydney’s northern beaches.

Emergency services were called to the Warriewood blowhole at around 1.15pm after a bystander heard cries for help and called Triple Zero.

The 14-year-old boy was playing near the rocky intertidal portion of the blowhole when he was sucked in and submerged in a cave for about five minutes.

Daring rescuers scaled down a 65-foot rock face to reach the boy, who was trapped on the rocks below and unable to walk due to his injuries.

“Initially we were concerned about his location on the tide. They were able to move him to a safer location, away from the tide and swell, and that gave us time to stage the rescue,” said Michael Kennedy from Fire and Rescue NSW.

The boy suffered multiple abrasions, including a broken leg, a deep laceration to his right leg and head injuries.
