Richard Pusey to sue Victoria Police over deadly Eastern Freeway crash

Victoria Police will defend himself in court after Porsche driver Richard Pusey sued the department over the Eastern Freeway crash that killed four officers in 2020.

The force confirmed it was aware that Pusey had filed a writ in the Supreme Court due to the trauma of witnessing the fatal crash.

Police stopped Pusey on the Eastern Freeway near Kew for speeding in his Porsche on April 22, 2020, before a sleep-deprived, drug-fueled truck driver rammed his vehicle into four of the officers who had stopped Pusey.

The truck driver, Mohinder Singh, was sentenced to at least 22 years in prison in 2021 over the incident.

Officer Lynette Taylor, 60; senior constable Kevin King, 50; and officers Glen Humphris, 32, and Josh Prestney, 28, died at the scene, marking the worst loss of police lives in Victorian history.

Pusey, who was not hit, filmed one of the dying officers making vulgar comments about the crash before fleeing the scene on foot.

He was later charged and sentenced to ten months in prison for his behavior.

Pusey was subsequently jailed for a further 10 months after including explicit photos of the dying officers in a complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority in 2021.

Pusey is now suing Victoria Police over claims of trauma he suffered from witnessing the crash and destruction of his Porsche.

Victoria Police denies the claims in the documents filed with the Supreme Court.

“Victoria Police is aware that this matter has been brought before the Court, rejects the allegations made and will defend the matter,” a Victoria Police spokesperson told 9News.
