Police have revealed stunning footage of rioters looting a petrol station amid unrest in Alice Springs.
Five people have been arrested over the riotous behavior, which started after the alleged murder of five-year-old girl Kumanjayi Little Baby.
Police say the gas station on Bagot Street, The Gap, and a convenience store on Gap Road were targeted by rioters Thursday evening.
Footage shows a man opening what appears to be a closed gas station door.
Dozens of people stream in and start taking things from the shelves.
Some then start throwing racks into the crowded store.
The petrol station is directly opposite Alice Springs Hospital.
The burglary occurred the night of Thursday’s riot, which occurred after Lewis was allegedly chased and beaten in what investigators believe was vigilante retaliation.
“What you will see is criminal behavior plain and simple,” said NT Police Commissioner Martin Dole.
Police say approximately $105,000 worth of property was stolen and $80,000 worth of damage was caused.
Five people – aged 18, 26, 34, 46 and 49 – have been arrested and are expected to be charged.
Police say more arrests are expected.
