Serious truck crash closes both directions of Hume Highway in Victoria

One of the country’s busiest roads has been closed in both directions after a multi-vehicle crash.

Northbound and southbound traffic on the Hume Highway is blocked south of Violet Town in rural areas Victoriaafter a collision between a B-double truck and several other vehicles.
Two adults and two children were taken to hospital Wangaratta for treatment.

Their status is unknown.

Six Country Fire Authority units are at the scene, along with police, SES and ambulances.

Violet Town is a rural town south of Shepparton.
The Hume Highway, later the Hume Freeway, connects Sydney And Melbourne and are the busiest freight routes in the country.

Thousands of trucks use the highway every day

“Northbound traffic will need to detour via the Goulburn Valley Highway via Seymour to Shepparton and then return via Benalla on the Midland Hwy,” a VicTraffic statement said.

‘Heading south you should turn off at Violet Town and use the Murchison-Violet Town Road to the Goulburn Valley Highway, rejoining the Hume at Seymour.’

The detour would add about 45 minutes of driving time for those on the road.
