Shooting suspect ‘likely targeting Trump’; King Charles’ US state visit will go ahead; FBI going door to door in suspect’s neighbourhood

Trump used last night’s shooting attempt to shut down his ongoing White House ballroom.

“This event would never have happened with the top-secret military ballroom currently under construction at the White House,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“It can’t be built fast enough! While it’s beautiful, it has all the highest level security features available, plus there are no rooms on top for unsecured people to flood in, and it’s inside the gates of the most secure building in the world, the White House.”

He said a lawsuit filed by “a woman walking her dog” should be dropped.

Trump is likely referring to a lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which argued that the president needed congressional approval for construction.

The lawsuit is still in court, but earlier this month a judge reversed an earlier ruling that construction had to be halted while the legal drama played out.

The ballroom, which will replace the now-demolished east wing of the White House, is estimated to cost $400 million, although Trump insists it was funded entirely by donations.
