Steph Claire Smith shares hilarious video of trying to get a meal right for your toddler

Ask any parent of a toddler and they’ll tell you getting what their child wants right can be a bit like a hostage negotiation, especially when it comes to food.

Influencer and wellness app co-founder Steph Claire Smith has shared the hilarious – and slightly terrifying – reality of this situation when making a snack for her son Harvey.

The video has already clocked up over 4.2 million views on TikTok and shows just how much goes into a parenting task as simple as making a crumpet.

“The stress of getting a toddler’s meal right,” reads the text at the top of the clip.

Smith asked her four-year-old son how he wanted his crumpet prepared, trying to get to the bottom of how to correctly make it with both jam and Vegemite.

Every time she asked him how to do it, Harvey would yell back and tell her how to do it.

“But don’t cut it up?” she asked after finally getting an answer on which side of the crumpet would have which spread.

“Yes,” he said sternly.

“OK, I promise, I’ll do my best,” Smith said while looking at the camera with a face that was half about to laugh and half full of fear.

She walked over to Harvey and placed the plate down beside him and said, “Alright buddy, I hope I’ve done it right?”

And then… silence.

I tell you what, every parent watching went, “Oh no” in that moment, but it turns out Smith nailed it and Harvey was so happy with his crumpet.

There’s not a single toddler parent who hasn’t been through this exact situation, but luckily for the Kic co-founder, she got it right.

The comments on the post are just as good as the video itself, with so many people joking they were fearing for her after hearing Harvey’s request.

“I held my breath when you asked if that was right,” commented one follower.

Another replied, “I was absolutely terrified for you.”

“the way he studied it before deeming it acceptable 💀 I was STRESSED for you,” commented another.

As a parent of a two-year-old, I know how important getting these things right is because if you’re wrong, you’re in for one hell of a meltdown.

One person in the comments perfect summed up what it’s actually like to be the parent of a toddler.

“Having a toddler is like being the assistant of a high profile business executive who doesn’t pay you and makes inconsistent, erratic and illogical demands all the time,” they commented.

Smith is pregnant with her second child with husband Josh, and one follower told her, “Nailed it mum! Take the rest of the day off!”
