Stephanie Rice shares details of her engagement and Mark Lassey’s proposal in Dubai in Today Show interview

Aussie Olympic swimmer Stephanie Rice tied the knot with Mark Lassey in January with not one, but two weddings to celebrate.

Now, she’s revealed some intimate new details about the moment Lassey dropped to one knee and proposed in Dubai, where they’re based.

The newlyweds appeared on Today with hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo, who have been hosting live from the United Arab Emirates city this week.

The couple revealed Lassey proposed at The Atlantis the Royal Resort, near the fountains, and that Rice knew the proposal was coming.

The gold medallist, 36, admitted she had “mixed thoughts” ahead of the proposal as she “knew it was happening”.

“Mixed thoughts, I have to be super honest. I knew it was happening. All day I knew Mark was going to propose,” she said.

Lassey explained he finds it hard to keep anything from Rice, even when trying to surprise her with a proposal.

“There’s no getting anything past Steph…. I did try to surprise her and it started going very bad,” he said.

“And I was like, ‘No, let’s just be upfront and get it done.'”

Rice implied she was a little nervous and excited at what was coming, saying: “The whole time I was like, ‘Stay present’, but I was like, ‘Is it now? Is it now?'”

“I don’t remember anything that he said because it was so hot. It was so humid!”

When the smitten pair announced their engagement in September last year, Rice wrote on Instagram: “Here’s to fresh starts and second chances … Yes to a lifetime with you 💍.”

The former athlete announced on January 10 that they had tied the knot at a winery in Perth, before having a second wedding celebration on a rooftop in the city.

“As we step into this new chapter as husband and wife, where two become one, our hearts are so full,” Rice said after the nuptials in a post on Instagram.

“The day was everything we dreamed it would be—overflowing with love, joy, and the tangible presence of God. It felt like heaven touched earth.”

They went on to honeymoon in Europe.
