Sunjay Kapur death: Billionaire friend of Prince William dies after ‘swallowing a bee’ during polo match

Sunjay Kapur, a billionaire businessman and reported friend of Prince William has died after suffering a heart attack during a polo match in the UK. He was 53.

Kapur, the owner of the Aureus polo team, reportedly fell ill while playing a polo match in the Cartier Trophy Semi-Finals in Windsor, UK.

The Telegraph and The Mirror reported that his fatal heart attack was triggered after swallowing a bee.

According to The Telegraph, witnesses revealed that Kapur said, “I’ve swallowed something,” before the incident unfolded.

Guards Polo Club issued a statement to Instagram following Kapur’s death.

“Guards Polo Club’s Chairman, Directors and Members were shocked to learn that Sunjay Kapur, owner of the Aureus polo team, died yesterday after becoming unwell when playing in a match at Smith’s Lawn,” the statement read.

“The Club sends its deepest condolences to his wife, Priya Sachdev, his children, the wider Kapur family and his Aureus team-mates.”

The Club added, “We will not be commenting again on this news to avoid any further distress to the Kapur family.”

His death was also confirmed by Sona Comstar, where Kapur worked as the chairman and non-executive director.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Mr Sunjay Kapur, Chairman and Non-Executive Director or Sona Comstar, following a sudden heart attack in England, UK, on 12th June 2025, at the age of 53,” the company wrote in a statement, per The Hindu.

“A visionary leader, Mr. Kapur played a pivotal role in shaping Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company built on innovation, sustainability, and purpose,” the statement continued.

A friend of Kapur’s spoke to Telegraph Sport in the wake of his death, sharing that “he will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but the local community around his club”.
