Suspects on the run as Gold Coast bus crashes after being pelted with rocks

The passenger bus, with a driver and five people on board, was targeted by several people on e-bikes who threw stones at it on Teemangum Street in Currumbin just before 11.30pm last night.

This caused the driver to lose control, causing the bus to leave the road and crash head-on into a tree.

None of the passengers were injured, but the female bus driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The company that operates the bus said it was shocked by the act of violence and that drivers did not deserve the kind of abuse they faced.

“This was a deeply disturbing incident for the bus driver and passengers involved, and we are in contact with those affected to offer our support,” Tom Kinsey, Kinetic’s general manager for south-east Queensland, said in a statement.

“Attacks on our drivers and passengers are completely unacceptable. We strongly condemn any behavior that endangers the safety of our drivers, the passengers on board and the community.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has CCTV or dashcam footage, is urged to come forward.
