Several beaches south of Sydney have been closed after a dead whale washed up on shore, posing a shark risk.
The whale washed up on the rocks at Era in Sydney’s Royal National Park, and Anzac Day beachgoers were told to stay out of the water.
All beaches in the area are closed, including Garie, Wattamolla, Era and Burning Palms.
Surf Life Saving NSW has warned residents and visitors to stay out of the water at this time due to the safety risks.
It is not known which whale species it is.
Lifeguards patrol the water, with some members using a drone and jet skis on the water.
Volunteer surf lifeguards remain on duty at supervised locations in the area, including Garie, Era and Burning Palms.
