A 15-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly using an e-bike to attack a police officer in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, seriously injuring a senior sergeant.
The male sergeant was patrolling the Flinders St precinct at around 4pm yesterday when he spotted a group of youths on e-bikes driving erratically through the busy thoroughfare.
When the officer tried to intercept the group between Swanston and Elizabeth streets, he asked one of the riders to stop.
Police allege the 15-year-old boy accelerated and struck the sergeant as he tried to drive away.
The sergeant was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries.
The rest of the group fled the scene, but the 15-year-old Port Phillip resident was arrested at the scene by other officers.
The teenager spent the night in custody and has since been hit with a series of serious charges.
The teen has been released on bail and will appear in juvenile court at a later date. The police continue the search for the other riders involved in the group.
