Teenagers who rode on Sydney bus roof sought by police

Sydney police are looking for two boys who rode on the roof of a bus through the city’s east.

Footage of the incident at 11.40am yesterday shows the teenagers lying on the roof of bus 356 as it traveled from Eastgardens to Bondi Junction.

The pair can be seen next to the emergency exit hatch on the roof of the vehicle.

The driver stopped the vehicle at Queens Park, where the two teens immediately exited the vehicle.

Riding on the roof of a bus – known as ‘bus surfing’ – is an illegal and dangerous act that has become popular on social media.

But transport authorities yesterday condemned the pair for their recklessness and said they were determined to stamp out the case.

“There is nothing harmless about this type of behaviour. It puts lives at risk and disrupts the safety of our transport network,” said Transport for NSW coordinator general Howard Collins.

‘We want to work closely with the police to put an end to this.

“Too often it is young people who get caught up in this and put themselves and others at serious risk.”

Collins also warned ‘bus surfers’ that they risk serious injury or death by hitting overhead lines or other infrastructure such as bridges.

“This could be the last decision you ever make.”
