The wildest items Aussies have left behind in an Uber, revealed

Published on

We all know someone – or have been the person ourselves – guilty of leaving something behind in an Uber.

Usually it’s something small – a lip gloss, a hairclip, or a pair of sunglasses – but every now and then something more consequential is left behind.

It’s probably safe to say a phone or a passport is as bad as it gets for most people… at least, that’s what we used to think anyway.

According to Uber’s recently released 2025 Lost & Found Index, some very forgetful Aussies have managed to forget some very whacky things.

We’ve been privy to a list of the 30 most “unique” items left in an Uber, but rather than listing each one of them for you, we’ve decided to share some of our favourites.

Starting off strong, it seems some fish fans also happen to have a poor memory, with the list including not just an Esky filled with crabs and fish, but also $500 worth of exotic fish.

Now most of us are pretty careful with valuables and cash, but it turns out that these are still easy things to forget.

A box of Christmas lights with $1500 cash inside, $400 worth of concert merch, a $1200 meat raffle prize and a pair of Lamborghini keys have all been forgotten in Ubers.

In terms of fashion items left behind, we’re talking leather jackets worth upwards of $3000, a Louis Vuitton belt and purse, an Armani bag, and more than 20 pairs of high heels (before you ask, no, we don’t know how someone carried this).

Other whacky items that we can’t really fit into a category include a prosthetic leg, a sword, hair extensions, what the team at Uber described as a “suspicious” amount of belts, and even a puppy.

Now, before we judge our fellow Aussies, lets remember that forgetting things in an Uber isn’t as difficult as it may seem.

One member of the 9honey team shared that after a nightmare travel day – and we mean it when we say nightmare – she managed to leave her passport in an Uber in France.

She says that her passport was kept in a bag that blended right into the seat, so when she jumped out she didn’t even notice it sitting there.

”I realised straight away when the car drove off and immediately panicked,” she says.

“Luckily, because it was an Uber, I was able to call the driver and he turned right around and returned it to me. This all happened within the space of five minutes.”

Now, this is where we thank the powers that be for the creation of Uber and for giving us a direct way to contact our drivers about forgotten items.

Sometimes we forget that it wasn’t always this way. Not everyone has been so lucky.

Another member of the 9honey team says that one night after “a few drinks” she left her phone in a cab she’d flagged down, presenting a much trickier retrieval process.

“I was able to track it down thanks to Find My iPhone, so in between a friend’s wedding ceremony and reception I went to locate it,” she recalls.

Eventually, she found the taxi and could see her phone inside, but there was a slight issue – the taxi driver was no where to be found.

“[I had] no way of contacting him,” she says.

Thankfully she was able to leave a note on the windscreen with her number, and her phone was eventually returned – but it certainly wasn’t as simple as a quick phone call.
