A Canberra The driver captured a bizarre and alarming sight: two young people appearing to ‘drive’ along a dark, wet road with a sofa at night.
The video, which was uploaded to a local Facebook page in Canberra, appears to show the young people two e-scooters while you sit on the two-seater sofa in the drizzling rain.
Cars can be seen driving past in the opposite direction.
The speed shown on the odometer of the car filming as it drives behind the bank indicates a speed hovering around 28 km/h.
The bench riders do not appear to be wearing helmets and there are no reflectors or taillights attached to them or to the bench.
The video was uploaded to a local Canberra group on Facebook last night by an anonymous poster, who said they had just seen the boys driving on Maribyrnong Avenue in Kaleen.
On the busy road there is a signposted speed limit of 60 km/h.
While some locals who responded to the video saw the funny side of the act, others were concerned about the safety of the bank riders and that of fellow road users.
E-scooters are legal in Canberra for riders over 12 years of age, but only on pedestrian and cycle paths unless these are unavailable.
Safety measures such as helmets and appropriate lighting and reflectors are mandatory and passengers are not permitted.
Nine.com.au has contacted ACT police about the footage
