‘Unhinged’ note office worker received after quitting job

An office worker has received an unpleasant surprise along with their final pay after quitting their job.

In a post on Reddit’s ‘Managed By Narcissists’ thread she shared the note that she was sent in the mail.

“Context: Ex boss and I had a previous working relationship & we both left the office we met at to pursue different opportunities,” they wrote alongside a copy of the note.

“I moved back to our home state & she heavily pursued me to work for her at her small business (since she was familiar with my work ethic & we had a good working relationship previously).

“I accepted the position & was originally told that I had her complete trust as her office manager.”

Three years later and the office worker said the “goal post being moved around the earth 1000 times while I was there” seriously impacted her.

She added that the new goal was never clearly communicated.

Ultimately she explained she “ended up quitting with no notice because I was tired of her insane micromanaging and the constant verbal beat downs when something wasn’t done exactly how or when she wanted it”.

When she resigned she asked for her final pay cheque to be mailed to her, and well, it came with an interesting note.

“When it came in the mail, this very cute and not at all unhinged letter was enclosed,” they shared.

“I cropped out our names for privacy of course, but the icing on this shit cake is that she signed the letter in… pink pen? It’s so unprofessional on so many different levels, I can’t help but laugh now that the dust has settled.”

The letter read, in part: “I hope you find something that suits you better. I knew in my heart of hearts that this was coming.

“I knew you would talk yourself into this being my fault. I’m also not surprised that you did it in the way you did. Leaving me/the agency high and dry has been your way over the entirety of your employment.

“You thank me for the opportunity then spit in my face. You definitely worked over the last year to get yourself into a position where you thought I would need you. I don’t need you.

“I made this agency and I will keep it thriving without you.”

The note ended with: “I consider our personal and professional relationship at its conclusion.”

People on Reddit had a lot of things to say about the note, with one suggesting the woman needed to frame it. 

Another commented: “Unhinged is right! Also, very revealing. They feel they need you, they’ve made that quite clear. Don’t walk, run! to your new life without this manipulative nonsense.”

“Just proof that you made the right decision,” added another.

Other Redditers took the opportunity to share their own woes.

“I often fantasise about leaving with no notice. I was nearly close to walking out the door today after a verbal beat down by my office manager (aka the bosses wife),” one said.
