Vigilantes bash their own stolen ute with baseball bats in Logan

The ute was initially stolen from a workplace in Yeronga, with the owners deciding to try and track it down.

It took three hours but they finally came across the thief on a street in Rochedale South at around 9.30pm.

CCTV footage shows the owners ramming their ute and then hitting it with baseball bats as they tried to get the thief to hand it over.

“That’s my car! He stole our car!” One of the men can be heard saying as he pounds the side doors, mirrors and windows of the ute.

The barrage on the ute lasted about three minutes, after which the thief was able to escape, but not before reversing through the gate of Danielle and Craig Mason’s home.

“A few hours earlier my son could have been turned over while playing in the front yard,” Chris said.

“Where has the world come to?”

The driver has still not been found despite a major police investigation, but the Mason family is more angry at the vigilantes than at the thief himself.

“I was especially angry about the vigilante chase because I think that was the cause of much more chaos, violence and damage than the man who stole the car,” Danielle said.

“That’s clearly wrong, but I just don’t think we should take matters into our own hands. Leave it to the police.”
