A bride-to-be has expressed frustration over several comments made by her mother over her upcoming wedding.
While some mums might get a bit too involved in the planning, this woman is having a different issue with her mum.
“Feels like the opposite of most people’s problem and short of telling her to shove it I’m at a loss,” she shared on Reddit’s ‘Wedding Drama’ thread.
“I feel like I’m planning an extremely casual American wedding, non religious, with the reception serving lunch instead of dinner and then offering a cocktail after party,” she described.

“I don’t want an hour of formal pictures, my bridal party is just to honour my friends but they won’t stand next to me, very ‘non traditional’ compared to the weddings I’ve been to,” she continued.
But the issue is, her mum thinks it’s all too traditional and she’s going too overboard with the plans.
She explained her mum was “shocked” when she said wanted a “polyester white dress” – her mother’s words – rather than her “great aunts navy blue one I told her I would get married in when I was 14”.

“She keeps saying I’m being dramatic and outrageous with my ‘demands’ that people celebrate all day rather than just lunch then leave (cocktail hour is totally optional),” the bride-to-be continued.
“And she keeps going on about how much less she spent and she planned it all in 2 weeks and how weddings are the most boring events anyway so why am I trying so hard.”
The bride-to-be said for reference, her mother is from Italy and was married there “in a tiny Catholic ceremony in the middle of nowhere 30 years ago but she wore a suit so I guess that’s alternative”.
“I went wedding dress shopping with some friends this weekend and when I sent her photos she just told me I look like a circus tent,” she continued.
“I already bought a dress but I can’t bring myself to tell her because she’ll hate it and I can’t cry again over something this ridiculous.”

She finished the post with: “End rant. I’m just so frustrated.”
Redditers were quick to sympathise with the bride-to-be.

“Stop telling her anything beyond really need to know stuff. Sounds like she has some issues surrounding weddings,” one commented.

Another advised: “Yes! It’s your wedding, not hers, and while you may wish to share it all with mom it’s causing you pain. Just let it go.
“Whatever issues she has from her wedding seem to be coming to the surface now and that’s not yours to deal with.”

One Redditer commented: “Underrated option. Normalise telling mms to pipe down.”
“No matter what you do, nothing will live up to her standards, so just do what makes you and your future spouse happy,” another replied.
Another added, “Tell her it’s your wedding and if she wishes to be invited then she needs to STFU with her opinions.”
