There are few things worse than finishing a warm shower only to step on a cold and damp bath mat.
And when left on the floor damp for days on end, that bath mat will soon become mouldy and stinky.
One woman has come up with a solution that stops all of the above, and while her husband thinks it’s weird we happen to think it’s very smart.

Lauren shared her bath mat hack on TikTok where it has been viewed by 2.8 million people so far.
“My husband thinks this is weird. You put a clothes hanger on the end [of the bath mat], you get out of the shower, you step on it and then when you’re done you just hang it up and let it dry so that it’s not wet and then when it’s time to take a shower again [the bath mat] is dry and you just lay it back down,” she said.
“That’s not weird, right? I’m just saying it’s not weird if you do that, it’s OK I do that too. He’s weird.”
Tips and hacks that’ll make doing laundry less of a chore
Lauren is definitely on to something with this hack because bath mats left on the floor take much longer to dry, especially in winter.
Hanging them up, whether it’s by attaching a clothes hanger or popping them over the side of the bath or shower or on a towel rail, speeds up the drying process.
A faster drying bath mat also prevents the mat itself getting mouldy and smelling musty, as well as mould growth underneath it and in the bathroom in general.

Lauren’s hack was well-received by those who viewed her TikTok video, with even the people who don’t like it admitting it makes sense.
“Not weird, actually very useful. but I still hate it,” one said.
“It’s genius. Not aestetically pleasing, but genius,” another commented.
“Is it weird? Yes. But is it also the most brilliant idea I have ever seen and will I be adopting this going forward? Also yes,” a woman posted.

Many people suggested Lauren try a stone bath mat instead as they are known to dry quickly. While Lauren said she has been thinking about one, others encouraged her to stick with her hack.
“It’s not weird… people say try stone bath mat but at least this one is Free !!” a man said.
“It’s smart. Ignore everyone saying you need a stone bath mat not knowing that a regular bath mat is easier to look after,” a woman told Lauren.

Some suggested sewing a loop on the bathmat so that Lauren wouldn’t have to use the hanger, which a couple of people thought might be a potential stepping hazard.
“I folded a small piece of ribbon and handstitch it onto the end and I hang it on a hook to dry, and to keep the cat from peeing on it. 10/10,” one commented.
While hanging your bath mat up after use is a good care tip it’s still important to swap over to a clean bathmat regularly and wash bath mats in the washing machine.
Bath mats should be washed once a week or more often depending on how frequently they’re used.
