Zara Tindall 2025 Cheltenham Festival day one: The ‘amazing’ Australian stylist behind her outfit

Zara Tindall has made a stylish debut at one of the UK’s most prestigious racing events, choosing a statement hat in co-ordination with her husband, Mike.

The King’s niece was the sole royal present on the first day of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse but the event is set to welcome other members of the House of Windsor in the coming days.

The 43-year-old wore a mustard-coloured hat which matched with Mike’s tie.

She kept warm from the cold conditions in the ‘Victoria’ navy coat by British high-end outdoors brand Fairfax and Favor, retailing for just over $1000.

Zara, who described her Australian stylist Annie Miall as “amazing”, was recently announced as an ambassador for the label.

Speaking to Hello! magazine recently about the collaboration, Zara said her “number one tip” for choosing an outfit for Cheltenham was to “create a balance between elegance and practicality”.

“Choose a classic, tailored outfit, but make sure to incorporate layers and weather-appropriate accessories,” Zara said.

“For events where I have to get more dressed up, I work with an amazing stylist who’s brilliant at finding pieces that reflect the type of event it is.

“So, for instance, when I go to Australia for the annual Magic Millions event, I wear a mix of British and Australian designers, and then continue wearing them when I’m back in the UK.”

The couple was recently in Queensland for the event with Zara choosing Australian designers Rebecca Vallance and Scanlan Theodore for various events, labels also loved by other royals including Queen Mary of Denmark.

Zara and Mike have three children: Mia, 11, Lena, six, and three-year-old Lucas and the family of five is often seen at outdoorsy-events in the countryside.

They live at Aston Farm, a renovated seven-bedroom farmhouse next to Princess Anne’s 283-hectare Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire in the English Cotswolds.

“I spend a lot of time outside, so I need footwear and clothing that supports the lifestyle we lead, whether that’s standing on the sideline watching the kids, walking the dogs or attending the races,” Zara said.

Her mother, who is famous for her thrifty and practical sense of style, has long been an inspiration.

“Mum taught me the importance of having good-quality clothing that keeps you warm and comfortable outdoors,” Zara added.

The Princess Royal, 74, is expected to attend the Cheltenham Festival in the coming days along with Queen Camilla.

Like the late Queen, the current Queen and Princess Anne Zara is a regular fixture at Cheltenham and has owned, bred and pre-trained several racehorses.

She also has an established career as an equestrian and notably won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics in team eventing.

Zara also famously carried the Olympic torch at Cheltenham Racecourse while riding her horse, Toytown, ahead of the London games.

She also won a gold medal in the 2006 eventing world championships in Germany.
