15 photos that stopped the nation in the last 195 years

Today, the Sydney Morning Herald It’s been 195 years since it was published and we look back at some of the most powerful and moving images it has published in almost two centuries.

These 15 photos were selected by the Herald’s chief photographer, Kate Geraghty.

Geraghty, a Walkley Award-winning photojournalist, was also the first female Herald photographer to cover armed conflict.

These are, in her opinion, just some of the most important images the publication has published over the past 195 years.
