One dead after being hit by car outside Supanova Comic Con in Melbourne

One person is dead and another is fighting for his life after a car reportedly plowed into a group of people outside a major comic book convention in Melbourne.

According to police, a gray Toyota mounted a curb on Langs Road near the Melbourne Showgrounds just after 5pm, striking two pedestrians.

One, who has yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The second pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

“Police have arrested a man who will be interviewed by police,” Victoria Police said.

The Supanova Comic Con took place at this location, where probably thousands of people were present

A major crime scene has been declared, with SES also on site.

Witnesses told 9News they saw a car driving “at a high rate of speed” toward a group of people, and it was described at the scene as a “chaotic situation.”
