Sylvia Jeffreys talks with Chris Brycki about investing and whether now is the right time to enter the stock market

Let’s be honest: when someone mentions the stock market, most young people’s eyes glaze over, including my own.

But after hearing Stockspot founder Chris Brycki on the latest podcast episode of The Pay Off with Sylvia Jeffreys, I’m ready to make a new case:

Getting into investing early is actually one of the smartest money moves you can make in your 20s.

There’s a lot of noise around the stock market right now. Sylvia asks a common question about whether now is the right time to get into the market, particularly for first-time investors.

Chris responds without hesitation, “I can really empathise with that… Markets are very different to investing in property where you don’t see the price everyday.”

“One of the great benefits also becomes a disadvantage … You can see how much it’s worth everyday and there’s a huge temptation to check-in and look at it all the time… And that can be very nerve-wracking”.

Episode Nine | How to Build Wealth the ‘Boring’ Way with Chris Brycki

Brycki says many investors use a strategy called, ‘Dollar Cost Averaging’, “The benefit of this strategy is to minimise regret – because if the market falls, you think ‘Well, at least I didn’t invest it all’ but if the market goes up, you’ve made money”.

Throughout this episode, Chris discusses a variety of different ways people invest in the stock market – from more aggressive approaches through to set-and-forget investment strategies.

At the end of the day, the share market can be wildly unpredictable. A small investment in your 20s can grow into something seriously impressive by the time you hit your 40s and 50s (without compromising on your daily iced almond latte), but there’s always a risk.
