The 44-year-old made an appearance on the exclusive Her best life event on Friday evening, where tickets for the full weekend went for an eye-watering $3,199.

The rest of the contents consisted of a Hunter lavender candle worth $21, a Love Tea gift box worth $39, and a bag of Funday lollipops worth $4.50.

Together the items totaled just under $200.

It is not known if any other goodie bags were offered, but champagne and luxury food flowed freely throughout the weekend.

General admission to the event cost $2,699 and VIP tickets – which included a photo opportunity – were $3,199.

The event kicked off on Friday evening, with Meghan taking part in a question and answer session at the event where no phones were allowed. She spoke candidly about life in the public eye, describing it as “very difficult” amid constant criticism.

Earlier in the day, guests arrived at the InterContinental hotel in Coogee, undergoing bag checks and body scans before the event started.

On stage, Meghan reflected on her time since meeting Prince Harry, citing “amazing moments” including their wedding and the arrival of their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

She also addressed the wave of public backlash that followed, telling the public that her children are her “inspiration” and describing much of the commentary about her as “projections.”

Her performance lasted about two hours before she left with Prince Harry to watch the NSW Waratahs take on Moana Pasifika.

Some attendees questioned the length of her retreat performance, given the price of admission.

“Why didn’t Meghan Markle share a meal with women who paid $3,000 to spend ‘retreat’ time with her? How is that kind?” someone wrote on social media.

“How ridiculous, they advertised it as if she was spending the whole weekend with them,” said one, while another added: “Two hours? I thought it was a weekend away? WOW!”

Meghan’s team later responded in a statement Hello!, saying: “Meghan was always confirmed that she would only be attending the retreat for her Q&A portion of the weekend.

“She loved sitting down and talking to Gemma in front of such an engaging audience.”
