Radio host Michael “Wippa” Wipfli has provided insight into his interacting with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex when they came to Australia during their tour last week.
On the Fitzy, Wippa and Kate show, he said he was invited by changemakers Nexus to attend the exclusive event because of his organization 36 Months, which focuses on child safety on social media.
Wippa, 46, said he and his wife Lisa were invited with a group of 50 people to a private home for the event, with the intimate setting raising “a few nerves”.

“I was extremely surprised by the lack of security… that’s probably the wrong word because that sounds like I’m passing judgment, but I liked the tone of how casual it was.”
He said he was even more surprised by how much Prince Harry, 41, knew in 36 Months, which was integral to Australia’s recent ban on social media for under-16s.
“Before they arrived, someone from their team said, ‘Hey, Harry wants to talk about 36 months and what’s happening here in Australia and talk about child safety on social media.’ So he knew about it and when I met him it was almost like he knew who I was.

“It was a very friendly greeting… he said, ‘Hey mate, nice to meet you’, so of course I said, ‘Harry, how are you?’. Anyway, there was a question and answer session with them, which was great, because they spoke so well… he spoke so openly and she [Meghan] was incredibly impressive…she spoke brilliantly.”
But when it was time to go, the radio star admitted he may have made a mistake and went against royal protocol.
He recalled the Duchess of Sussex’s farewell, saying they “shared a hug and a kiss goodbye!”

This detail caught the attention of co-host Kate Ritchie, who asked, “Did you kiss her?”
Wippa confirmed: “Yes… I gave her a hug and a kiss goodbye!”, just like he would for anyone else
Co-host Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald joked, “That’s not protocol buddy,” while Ritchie was still reeling and asked, “Did she go in to kiss you?”

Wippa explained, “Lisa gave her a hug, and they said goodbye… then she came over and gave me a hug, so I just gave her a kiss on the cheek.”
Wippa’s co-hosts were stunned, with Fitzy joking: “Did the English press pick up on that… that’s going too far!”
