Although from the outside it may seem like he became famous overnight, his journey to becoming a professional dancer was anything but smooth.

“Mikala, good to see you!” Vrondas, who happens to be my cousin, beams over a video call.

Vrondas is calling from Cronulla, in Sydney’s south, where he is temporarily living with his family before moving to the US for his latest adventure and joining the cast of Magic Mike Live New York.

The 21-year-old joined the cast of Magic Mike Live London a year ago, moving from Sydney to Britain to dance in the live show.

However, Vrondas’ journey on stage began years earlier when he started dancing at the age of seven.

He continued to dance throughout elementary and high school, but never saw it as a serious career option for him.

Vrondas stopped dancing altogether after the COVID-19 pandemic, saying he fell out of love with it.

He was also a keen rugby player; Like dance, he had played footy most of his life.

“I thought I was going to play professional rugby, I thought this was my career,” he said.

A recurring shoulder injury changed everything.

“I dislocated my shoulder three times. The first time was while playing football, the second time while dancing,” he said.

Weeks before his tryouts to play rugby union for New South Wales, Vrondas dislocated his shoulder for a third time.

“The doctor said if I want to do any kind of exercise, I have to have surgery,” he explained.

“I tried to go back to rugby [afterwards] For a moment, just to see if I still had it, but my confidence was completely gone.

“I was so afraid of dislocating it again…I just had to give up.”

During this time, Vrondas slowly began to return to dance, quickly falling in love with it again.

“I took a step back from everything and thought, ‘What are my options?’” he said.

“I’ll either go to college, but I hate it because I’m bad at school, or I’ll dance professionally… I thought, ‘I only have one option.’

“That mentality of knowing there’s nothing else out there for you, I think some people would be afraid of that. I’ve taken on that challenge.

“I had to give it my all, I gave it 110 percent.”

After dancing full-time for two years, he was signed by an agent, making him a dancer’s dream.

He has performed alongside Kylie Minogue, Adam Lambert, Tones and I and Robbie Williams.

He was then offered a spot on a Chinese stadium tour, where he danced as backup for an Asian pop star for six months.

He headed back to Sydney looking for his next adventure when he was offered an audition for Magic Mike.

Although he is now the epitome of confidence on the Magic Mike stage, he said he was “very nervous” about joining the franchise because he feared being misunderstood.

“I was very nervous about it… I thought it was a male stripper,” he said.

“I went there and auditioned and I thought, ‘Oh, this is just dancing.’

“Then I had to tell everyone, ‘It’s not what you think it is. It has depth. It has a story. It’s actually about dancing… It’s not about the comic aspect.'”

Vrondas was offered the role and he quickly became the most recognizable cast member of the Magic Mike London show.

He was so popular online and with audiences that he was offered the gig to kick off the live shows in New York later this year.

As part of the role, he met Channing Tatum and did a press conference with him in the US, which also included appearances Watch What Happens live with Andy Cohen.

“He was actually so nice, very down to earth, good at conversations… his voice is also very soothing and personal.”

“I think the idea for us was to just be true to yourself, because that’s really all there is to it. If you stay true to yourself, you can’t do anything wrong.”

While Vrondas gets the attention of women all over the world, he likes to be taken along.

He is in a relationship with New Zeal and dancer Hana Morris, who also has a successful career on stage.

However, this doesn’t stop fans from saying inappropriate things under his online videos.

“At first I would read the comments on every video and think, ‘What is that? … What is this?’ It made me laugh a lot.

“Then I got to a point where I thought, ‘No, this is ridiculous, it’s too much.’ It’s going to be awkward.”

Morris finds the comments funny and she has confidence in herself and their relationship.

“We’ve gotten to a place where that’s just a job, we’re together, that’s a job versus this is our life.”

Vrondas will go to New York while Morris will stay and work in London, but the couple is confident in their future and will travel long distances.
