Meghan Markle twerking in hospital before birth of Princess Lilibet | Duchess of Sussex never wanted privacy for her children she just wanted to get back on Instagram | Opinion

OPINION – – Another day, another social media post from Meghan.

But this time, the Duchess of Sussex has shared what could be the most intimate glimpse into her family yet from what is normally a very private moment.

In a video that shows her twerking while heavily pregnant with daughter Princess Lilibet, Meghan can be seen dancing with Prince Harry while trying to induce labour in the delivery room at hospital.

“Both of our children were a week past their due dates,” Meghan explained on Instagram.

“So when spicy food, all that walking and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do.”

Since returning to Instagram in January, Meghan has been sharing select glimpses of the family’s life.

The delivery room video came hours after the duchess shared four previously unseen photos of Lilibet to celebrate her fourth birthday, on June 4.

The first two are black and white images of herself and her daughter, one taken moments after Lilibet was born.

The other shows Lilibet several years later in Meghan’s arms on what appears to be a boat.

The child’s eyes and the top half of her face can be seen and the rest of her face is covered by Meghan’s arms.

Several hours later, Meghan shared another post this time featuring Lilibet with Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex is seen cradling his newborn daughter, who is wrapped tightly in a blanket.

The other shows the pair walking together on a sandy path.

“The sweetest bond to watch unfold,” Meghan captioned the post.

“Daddy’s little girl and favourite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!”

And then came the twerking video.

The duchess, who is now 43, is seen hip-thrusting while in a squat position, dancing with Prince Harry to the song Baby Mama Dance by Mic Drop Mama.

Apparently there was a trend around the time of Lilibet’s birth in 2021 of pregnant women showing off their dance moves at 39 weeks.

The video is a light-hearted moment of fun in what can be a stressful time for any woman.

But it’s also unprecedented for being such an intimate look inside what is usually a very private moment for any expectant family, let alone the royal family.

Despite leaving their places as senior working royals in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain two of the British royal family’s most prominent members.

Prince Harry is fifth-in-line to the throne, his children Prince Archie is sixth and Lilibet seventh. Their grandfather is King Charles III.

Meghan and Harry have been fiercely protective of their children’s privacy, citing it as one of their reasons for leaving Britain – and the fishbowl of royal life – for the US five years ago.

They have rarely shared photos showing the full faces of Archie or Lilibet, apart from a few images since their births.

Last month, when Archie turned six, Meghan posted a photo of the child from behind.

She also shared previously unseen pictures of her children in a post to celebrate the couple’s seven-year wedding anniversary, on May 18.

Some of the photos showed the children’s faces, with one featuring Archie kissing his younger sister’s forehead.

Other images showed Meghan while heavily pregnant with her son, as well as an ultrasound scan.

Since January, when she revealed her presence on social media, the duchess has released a Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, a lifestyle brand, As ever, and a podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.

Meghan has used her Instagram return not only to promote her professional relaunch but to share many family moments with the world.

For a couple who has spoken at length about guarding their children’s privacy, Meghan’s recent posts are in stark contrast to that pledge.

The duchess famously refused to pose for photos on the steps of the hospital when she gave birth to Archie in 2019, despite it being a royal tradition started by her late mother-in-law Diana and dutifully followed by Catherine, the Princess of Wales when she had her three children.

She gave birth in a different hospital to that of Diana and Kate and introduced Archie to the press at St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle two days after his birth.

“The amount of abuse that we got, especially you,” Harry said to Meghan in their Netflix series of the decision, “but both of us, for not wanting to serve our child up on a silver platter, was incredible”.

Meghan’s Instagram now has three million followers and is updated frequently, with Archie and Lilibet featuring predominantly.

Perhaps Meghan never really wanted privacy for her children, she just wanted to get back on Instagram.

In 2018 she closed down her hugely popular account in preparation for marrying into the royal family, later saying of the move: “It was a big adjustment – a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to a different life”.

For someone who has worked hard to rebuild her personal and professional brand since being heavily criticised for speaking unfavourably about her experiences in the royal family, Meghan knows her power.

The public want to see her and the children and Meghan is all to aware of this.

Prince Harry, who has always detested the media scrutiny into his family, might have taken a bit of convincing to be seen in such a way.

But, in yet another show of his unwavering support of his wife, he appears to have relented.

Meghan recently teased the possibility of writing a memoir, telling a podcast “Yes, maybe, for sure!” when asked if she was planning a book.

“I think people are often curious if I am going to write a memoir but I’ve got a lot more life to live before I am there,” she told friend Jamie Kern Lima on her podcast.

Just imagine all the photos and videos Meghan has stored away, waiting for the right moment to share them on social media, in another Netflix series or in a book.

Her potential earning power is enormous.

The price she might have to pay? Giving up that once-coveted push for privacy.
