Over 200 million litres of extra diesel coming to Australia

Additional diesel is on its way from Asian suppliers to Australia, the Prime Minister has announced.

Anthony Albanese said BP and Viva had secured two additional shipments each, with all four totaling just over 200 million litres.

The purchases were made with support from Export Finance Australia. The additional supplies will arrive in the last week of May or the first week of June.

The NRMA says Australia uses an average of about 93 million liters of diesel per day.

The 200 million liter supply the Prime Minister spoke of adds about two and a half days’ supply – although, as he stressed, this is an “additional” supply on top of what has been contracted.

Two of the additional shipments were purchased from South Korea, one from Brunei and one from Malaysia.

“We will continue to use every measure at our disposal to make a difference,” Albanese said.

Albanese said the government continued to work with fuel and fertilizer suppliers to secure additional cargo for Australia.

The national cabinet will meet this week, although Albanians will not be interested in the specific topics to be discussed.

“It is important that the state and territories are informed and it is important that we work together as a nation at a very challenging time for the entire world,” he said.

The Albanians also refused to commit to whether or not the government would extend the current fuel tax cut.

The cut is currently in place until the end of June, and Albanians said the volatility of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East made it impossible at this time to predict whether an extension would be necessary.

“This is a volatile, turbulent time in the world,” he said
