Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire until Iran submits a proposal to permanently end the conflict.

“Based on the fact that the government of Iran is deeply divided, which is not unexpected, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to postpone our attack on the country of Iran until their leaders and representatives can come up with a joint proposal,” he wrote on Truth Social.

He said he had ordered the US military to “continue the blockade and in all other respects maintain readiness and capability.”

The ceasefire was due to expire on Wednesday at 8pm US Eastern Time (10am Thursday AEST).
