At least one dead, others critical after bus crash on Bruce Highway

At least one person has been killed and others are fighting for life after a bus crashed into a major Queensland motorway.

Emergency services were called to the Bruce Highway near Rangemore Road in Gumlu, about 135 kilometers south of Townsville, about 4pm today after reports the large coach had rolled.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics assessed 30 people at the scene.

The person who died was a passenger, police said.

Several other passengers were taken to hospitals in Ayr, Bowen and Townsville.

The bus driver, a 70-year-old Mackay man, was taken to Bowen Hospital with minor injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the single-vehicle accident and is calling on any witnesses to come forward.

The road was closed to all traffic in both directions and motorists were told to avoid the area.

Three women aged 56, 33 and 21 were killed in that accident, while several other bus passengers were injured.
